Going through mediation was such a brilliant way of resolving our difficulties and we ended up with an agreement that we’re both happy with.”

Mrs Gibbins, Basingstoke

What is mediation?

Mediation is a way of solving disputes in which the people involved (with the help of an independent person known as a mediator) aim to find solutions to a problem and settle their dispute without going to court.

It is a voluntary process which can help to:

  • improve communication between the people involved and rebuild broken relationships
  • explain issues and misunderstandings
  • focus on finding solutions that everyone agrees on

The benefits of mediation

Mediation focuses on improving understanding and encouraging communication between the people involved.

  • It can help those involved gain a better understanding of the issues, resulting in improved relationships
  • The approach is constructive and based on common sense which produces practical solutions, avoiding the need for lengthy and costly legal action
  • It provides a less hostile and intimidating atmosphere in which to solve disputes
